Celebrate Mandela Day by showing unity against GBV
Project Playground is seeking support from corporates, businesses and individuals to come together and raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and provide others—who may be facing violence in their home—with information to assist them in getting help and a reminder that their employer, their colleague, their neighbour or their friend is standing against GBV.
For each donation of R167, Project Playground will provide your organisation with a unique “Ubunye” beaded bracelet, symbolising unity and togetherness and critical information about how to seek help for women and children who are experiencing violence in their home.
Not only does each bracelet symbolise your company’s solidarity in the fight against GBV and support victims of violence, but your donation also supports the emotional recovery of survivors by supporting Project Playground’s individual-focused psychosocial interventions for woman and children in Langa and Gugulethu.
COMING TOGETHER: On 18th July, businesses, companies and individuals who have contributed towards Project Playground’s Mandela Day initiative are asked to unite in the fight against gender-based violence and spread the word about resources available to survivors by spending their 67 minutes on social media. We ask that each recipient of the bracelet post a picture of them wearing their bracelet and tag your company, @projplaygroundsa, and #67minutes #mandeladay #stopviolenceagainstwomen #stopviolenceagainstchildren on their social media platforms.
This is a moment to make a difference for your community by honouring President Nelson Mandela, by coming together, by supporting each other while we remain apart.

Donate tablets for vulnerable kids to access online learning resources
At Project Playground, we have seen globally how education has been rapidly remodeled around digital and virtual learning resources--a change that is likely to be lasting.
However, we have also seen our participants--without access to WiFi, laptops or even cellphone data--fall further and further behind their counterparts. This is why we are working to build a new programme to address the inequality growing daily in the education system in South Africa and provide our kids with access to these invaluable learning resources.
We have partnered with organisations who provide adaptive learning platforms, individual-focused tutoring sessions with personalised homework assignments, and training for our facilitators to implement these tools. At our centres, participants will have access to Maths and Literacy applications; internet; and a supportive and quiet environment for individual, group, and tutoring study sessions.
In order to improve the quality of this programme, we are looking for donations of WiFi-enabled tablets. Please consider helping our kids keep up with the changing times by donating to Project Playground!
