Tholoana Foundation NPO was established in 2020 by Mrs. Julia Sefuthi due to high rate of unemployment in Stilfontein and Khuma area. Due to most of the mines closing down, the community was left with nothing because the place does not even have industrials/ firms where people could at least work and be able to live. Covid-19 pandemic also made things worse because more people were retrenched on top of those who are already living with nothing, therefore Tholoana Foundation intends to bridge this gap. There is also lack of information and support regarding how skilled individuals can go about, if they want to start their own businesses; not forgetting those with various talents who can benefit through them with the support from well-structured organizations. The organization started with 8 beneficiaries who were willing to see change around Stilfontein and Khuma respectively. As of April 2021, the organization has seen an increase in number to 45 people who have different skills from sewing, welding, aluminium making etc. who want to join and transfer their skills to other community members while producing materials and tools which will be sold to sustain the organization. The organization has the following objectives: a) Encourage entrepreneurship amongst participants by facilitating skills development through various selected projects such as vegetable garden, welding, tombstones manufacturing, Sewing, Aluminium and plumbing etc. b) Assist children in need, and offer help to orphanages or destitute homes. c) Act as a clearing house for information between institutions and individuals interested in the activities planned by the foundation. d) Act as a link between matric students and higher educational institutions by facilitating the application process including financial application with NSFAS. e) Act as a liaison between companies and unemployed individuals by sourcing internships and learnerships. f) Nurture talent amongst people regardless of their age and educational background. g) Work with other establishments that pursue similar objectives. h) Create funding methods through projects to reach out to more people in need.
