Growthpoint Properties has long recognised that real impact starts with education. Through its flagship initiative Growsmart, the company set out to improve literacy, numeracy, and life skills among primary school learners across South Africa.
Initially launched in the Western Cape, Growsmart expanded rapidly — particularly during and after COVID-19 — to support schools and learners in under-resourced communities with high-quality academic content, competitions, and mentorship.
The challenge was to scale reach, maintain high standards of learning, and ensure that learners in all provinces could participate equitably, regardless of location or connectivity.
The Project
In partnership with Brownie Points, Growthpoint digitised the Growsmart programme to streamline engagement and monitor school participation at scale. The platform supported user management, activity tracking, and communications — enabling more efficient coordination between provinces, districts, and schools.
Brownie Points ensured the digital infrastructure could keep pace with Growsmart’s national ambitions, reducing manual processes while allowing educators and learners to focus on what matters most: learning, growth, and opportunity.
Success
- Expanded to 3 provinces across South Africa
- Reached 860 schools through the Growsmart platform
- Engaged 6,862 learners in reading, writing, maths, entrepreneurship, and leadership
- Streamlined programme operations and school engagement through digitisation
- Strengthened Growthpoint’s role as a leader in education-focused social investment
Growsmart continues to be a powerful model for public-private partnership in education — proving that when businesses back learning, everyone grows smarter.
